Our Two Methodologies
All of our products are derived from the firm’s two proprietary models for assessing, rating, and forecasting political and country risk: Political Risk Services (PRS) and the International Country Risk Guide (ICRG).
Political Risk Services (PRS)™ or the Coplin-O’Leary Country Risk Rating System™ was developed by Professors William D. Coplin and Michael K. O’Leary during 20 years of research at the Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs, Syracuse University, along with the U.S. Department of State, the Central Intelligence Agency, other government agencies, and major multinational corporations.
All publications based on this system are included in the PRS product line. PRS’ methodology and research produces 100 Country Reports and various service packages and related publications, including our premier service, PRS Online, and the academic version of our premier service, Political Risk Yearbook.
The International Country Risk Guide (ICRG) model for rating and forecasting political, economic and financial risk was created in 1980 by the editors of International Reports, a widely respected weekly newsletter on international finance and economics. To meet clients’ needs for a rigorous, predictive approach to determining the country risks to international business operations, the editors created a quantitative model, complete with corresponding country and regional analyses, covering 140 Country Reports. The result is a comprehensive system that allows various types of country risk to be measured and compared between countries, and a quantitative model that can be modified for firm-specific purposes.
