“Netanyahu’s apparent preference for a military solution in Gaza and his resistance to early elections are closely related. A result that costs him control of the government would strip him of political protection from legal jeopardy related to his ongoing trial on corruption charges, which resumed in December 2023. The loss of just seven members of the incumbent coalition would almost certainly bring the early demise of Netanyahu’s government and an early election that would likely be disastrous for his party and quite possibly fatal to his political career.”
“Heightened security risks adversely affected activity in the tourism industry in the first half of 2024, but services exports had returned to pre-October 7 levels by the end of the year, limiting the negative impact on the current account balance, which recorded a surplus equivalent to 3.2% of GDP last year. Sustained demand for Israel’s high-tech exports will ensure the maintenance of a comfortable surplus in 2025 barring the eruption of a broader regional conflict.”
