Russian Drones Over Poland: A NATO Response and It’s Effect on Geopolitical Risk
As the Russian drone movement over Poland prods NATO leaders to take stock of wider threats, it might be worth noting the well-established literature affecting the connection between aspects of political risk and the involvement of the armed forces.
One recent study – published by Wiley – found that that the effect of cross-border conflicts and foreign pressures on the military’s involvement in politics are conditional, becoming significant only during periods of political change.

From a regional perspective, as levels of military hostility rose within the Middle East and North Africa, religious and ethnic tensions tended to increase, while aspects of law and order (rule or law/crime) decreased, suggesting that military intervention negatively affects political stability.
